PHL 250 - Professional Ethics
3 Credits
A study of ethical problem-solving in the professional and workplace settings. The course provides students with the concepts, methods, and theories needed to analyze moral problems in a variety of professions and workplaces. The course includes lectures, discussions, case studies, the nature and formation of codes of professional ethics. Some analyses are performed in teams of students. Some sections are limited to specific majors, as indicated in the course title. The course may not be repeated for additional credit hours.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Analyze a philosophical argument on a problem or question in professional ethics.
2. Apply moral theories to professional or workplace moral issues using the case-study method.
3. Apply concepts central to the philosophical study of professional ethics in discussion or writing.
4. Explain the historical, social, or cultural contexts of the professions, codes of professional ethics, and the relations between the professions and other institutions.
5. Write an argument that analyzes, evaluates, or defends a solution to a specific problem in professional ethics.
6. Evaluate objections or alternatives to proposed solutions to theoretical or practical problems in professional or workplace ethics.
